How to Prepare for Flu Season

Flu season is upon us, but with the right preparation, avoiding the flu all together can be done with ease. Instead of waiting until flu symptoms are present, be proactive. Check out these ways below to help you prepare for flu season.

    Wash Your Hands Regularly

Maintaining good hygiene before getting sick is essential to keeping yourself and those around you free from any illness, especially the flu. However, washing your hands while you’re sick is just as important. Keep hand sanitizer with you if you don’t have the opportunity to head to a bathroom to wash your hands. This will help eliminate germs and decrease the chance of spreading.

According to the CDC, it is recommended to wash your hands, under fingernails and forearms for no less than 20 seconds.

    Vaccinate Yourself

The flu vaccination can provide you immunity from the flu virus. It’s effectiveness varies from person to person, but generally the flu vaccination will implement the most protection against the flu virus. Most insurances cover the flu shot, so make sure you are protecting yourself and those around you.

    Clean and Disinfect

Second to washing your hands, one of the most important things to do when you have the flu is properly clean and disinfect. Get rid of the existing germs so that dont have the chance to spread any further. Wipe everything down that you have touched so the spread of bacteria is limited.

    Get Enough Rest

If the flu has the best of you, do yourself a favor and try to rest and stay hydrated. Avoid interactions with others because the flu is highly contagious. This is where classic movies come in handy or binge watch a favorite TV show. Your bed will be your best friend.

    Stock Up on Supplies

The last thing you’ll want to do if the flu strikes is venture to the store. Prepare for the flu by stocking up on the necessities. So just incase the flu strikes, you can focus on getting better. Here is a quick list of some items we think would be best to get you through the flu:
    • Tissues
    • Hand Soap
    • Hand Sanitizer
    • Over-the-Counter Medicines
    • Menthol Rubs
    • Chicken Noodle Soup
    • Tea
    • Classic Movies

    Prepare for Flu Season Today!

Protecting yourself and those around you from the flu is essential in staying healthy throughout flu season. The flu can be exceptionally threatening to seniors and young children. So preparing with good hygiene and the flu shot can largely stifle the flu virus from spreading.
