Here are some highlights of our favorite local destinations and events:
Kimmell House Inn B&B
This resident recommendation did not disappoint! We were greeted by the happy staff at Kimmell House Inn B&B where we were served a Victorian Tea. It was a wonderful way to experience the history and tradition of high tea.
Grissom Air Reserve Base
A few of our residents were given an amazing opportunity from a local Fort Wayne resident, Joseph, who is pursuing a degree in Aviation Science in hopes to fly for the Air Force Reserve. For his service project, he chose to take up selected residents in a Cessna 172 and let them fly. We were even able to fly over our home at StoryPoint Group!
Our resident Mike, an Air Force vet, said, “The best part was having the controls and feeling the plane move in response.” Thank you, Joseph, for an incredible bucket list item our residents were able to cross off!
Dutch Creek Animal Farm
The weather was perfect for our animal adventure at Dutch Creek Animal Farm in Shipshewana. They have a wide variety of exotic animals that residents got to feed up close and personal.
Vinland Reserve Winery
We finally got to check out the Vinland Reserve Winery, and it did not disappoint! The seasonal Plum wine was our favorite, and despite the rain, the views of the pond and fall leaves were beautiful. We had a great first experience and can’t wait to go back!
Parkview Field
What an extraordinary night as the Fort Wayne TinCaps celebrated the Fort Wayne Daisies! We came in support of one of our very own residents who used to be a bat girl for the team in 1948. It was such a fun experience that we were blessed to be part of.
The Dixie
All aboard the Dixie excursion boat! It may have been a hot summer day, but the breeze, shaded lower deck, good company and beautiful views made it one of our favorite outings of the summer. The Dixie’s history begins with a young packet steamboat pilot named Joseph Breeck. Breeck built the first Dixie in 1914, and it was replaced by the present Dixie in 1929. Now 80 plus years old, the Dixie still takes scheduled trips around Webster Lake.
