Did You Know? History Of Union, Kentucky
The city of Union has a history dating back to the late 1700s, potentially even earlier. By the early 1800s, much of its land was owned by the Fowler family. In 1817, Benjamin Piatt Fowler’s residence in the northern area marked a significant development. While records suggest Union was established as early as 1833, official incorporation as a city occurred in 1838. Though the origin of its name remains uncertain, it likely stemmed from its role as a hub between Florence and Big Bone Lick, where salt was produced in the early 1800s and then distributed from Union.
By 1850, Union had a functioning post office and later saw the addition of a millinery shop, Union Presbyterian Church, a bank, a general store, a drugstore, a blacksmith and a creamery. Challenges in the early 1900s led to a lapse in its official status until 1969 when it was reincorporated. Since then, Union has grown significantly, expanding from one to approximately three-square miles. With a population exceeding 7,500, it’s now the second-largest city in Boone County. Today, our city is filled with recreational opportunities, as well as restaurants, shops, local parks and other attractions the whole family can enjoy.

Heading On A Jungle Adventure
We had a blast exploring Jungle Jim’s International Market Eastgate. It was such an awesome adventure. We got lost in the aisles filled with hundreds of thousands of amazing things.
After working up an appetite, we headed to LaRosa’s Pizzeria for a delicious lunch. It was so much fun to enjoy a couple slices and share in cheerful conversation. We can’t wait for our next jungle adventure!
Enjoying A Historical Lunch
We had an amazing time at Tousey House Tavern in Burlington, KY, with the Lunch Bunch crew! It felt like stepping back in time when we entered this old house turned into a restaurant. The food smelled incredible, like grandma’s cooking, and each dish had a unique twist that made it special. We laughed, shared stories and enjoyed the cozy atmosphere.
A Cruise On The River
This was a fine day for a cruise along the mighty Ohio River! Once aboard the BB Riverboats, we had our fill of a delicious Captain’s lunch and made sure to save room for their creamy cheesecake.
After lunch, we were serenaded by vintage songs played on the banjo, which was the perfect soundtrack to a scenic cruise along this historic river route. We were thankful for beautiful weather and the company of great friends!
An Afternoon At The Theater
We took a fun trip to the Stephen Foster Story. The Stephen Foster Drama Association is a non-profit organization that produces the Stephen Foster Story and other entertainment events at a beautiful outdoor amphitheater. We had so much fun learning about the history and watching the performances.
Trying Our Luck
We had a fantastic time at Turfway Park Racing & Gaming. We tried our luck on the slot machines and had a blast playing together.
