The chance to go to college is a blessing and an amazing opportunity for anyone. It is also an opportunity for employers to invest in their best people. Independence Village of Aurora is pleasantly aware of this opportunity and has a scholarship program in place to facilitate it.
The program, Seniors Serving Seniors, is dedicated to presenting an annual college scholarship fund to all high school senior culinary employees. The community asks each student to write an essay on what they have learned by working at Independence Village in order to qualify.
Here are some excerpts from this year’s students:
Independence Village of Aurora has had this scholarship program in place for many years. Each year they host fundraising events to save the money necessary for the scholarships. Then each summer they host a celebratory event to dedicate the scholarship to the lucky recipients. The graduation event held each year brings students, their families, residents and the rest of the staff together to honor the soon to be college students.
The residents adore Independence Village’s student employees, and the feeling is mutual, as Shania Davis states, “my relationships with the residents and the experiences I’ve had mean the world to me.”
Independence Village is always looking to hire and develop hard working individuals. If you are interested in learning about career opportunities, please reach out to Chelsea Kueffner at (810) 220-2633 or CKueffner@csig.com. We look forward to hearing from you.
