100th Birthday Celebrations On The 100th Day Of The Year!
It’s not every day that a resident celebrates a 100th birthday, but at Independence Village of Avon Lake, celebrating residents does happen every day.
On the 100th day of the year, the community celebrated six centenarians that call the community home. Families, friends and residents gathered to celebrate the incredible lives of these amazing individuals.
The party featured an incredible dessert buffet from our culinary team, a champagne and wine bar, and a fun performance by a local big band, The Night Owls! Barb, Irene, Irene, Betty, Thelma and Margaret — you are so loved!
Lifelong Basketball Fan Lives Out Dream On Court
Dream Big — our initiative to help residents' dreams become reality — went live from Indiana University (IU), where they helped us make Earl Ward's dream come true! Earl, a WWII veteran and founding StoryPoint Fort Wayne North resident, is a lifelong IU fan. He mentioned to his favorite culinary members that all he ever wanted to do was see an IU basketball game at Assembly Hall but was worried he was running out of time. Cue our Dream Big team's creativity, a little coordination, and a successful dream come true! Earl ended up on the court and received a standing ovation from fans. Earl was all smiles!
This Little Guy Steals Hearts!
It all started with a cute little blind dog named Rocket. Stonegate Village housekeeper Chris fell in love with Rocket and adopted him. But the love for Rocket didn't just end there! He became the licensed emotional therapy service dog at Stonegate Village, and the residents adore him. He comforts those in memory care, and everyone is happier when he visits.
Chris entered Rocket into the Petco Love Stories campaign and won $5,000 for the Sanilac County Humane Society. Rocket was one of 18 winners nationwide. Stonegate Village is proud of Rocket and grateful to Chris for bringing such a special dog into their lives.
