Getting To Know Grand Rapids
Grand Rapids is the second largest city in Michigan after Detroit. Only a 25-mile drive from Lake Michigan, the city is located along the Grand River. Grand Rapids is often referred to as the economic and cultural hub of West Michigan, and it’s actually one of the fastest-growing cities in the Midwest.
In Grand Rapids, there is always something to do whether you’re interested in arts, sports, entertainment, nightlife. Take a look at some of our favorite places to visit in the city of Grand Rapids.
Fredrik Meijer Gardens And Sculpture Park
Are you a fan of modern art? What about stunning outdoor spaces? At the Fredrik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park, you’ll find both, plus exotic plants, desert and Victorian gardens, wetlands and meadows.
Not only are the Fredrik Meijer Gardens a great place to admire art and nature, but they also host exciting summer events like concerts, comedy shows and more.
Grand Rapids Civic Theatre
From classic shows like Les Misérables to modern renditions of Legally Blonde, the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre is the place to be if you want to see a show.
Established in 1925, the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre is one of the oldest and largest community theatres in the nation. Their mission is to entertain, educate and engage the community through theatre arts.
Gerald R. Ford Museum
Did you know the 38th president of the United States of America, President Gerald R. Ford, was raised in Grand Rapids?
At the Gerald R. Ford Museum, guests can find documents, artifacts, photographs and videos that give a closer look into the life of Michigan’s only President. The museum even includes a life-sized Oval Office and Cabinet Room.
Beer Tours
For 10 years, Grand Rapids has (very proudly) held the title of Beer City, USA. With 40 craft breweries all within a 30-minute drive, many people travel to Grand Rapids to tour the city, in search of the most delicious brew.
In fact, you can even take a ride in the Grand Rapids Beer Tours party bus and they’ll drive you from one brewery to the next while you sample different beers. With great breweries also comes great food, so there’s plenty of options to curb your appetite, too.
Boulder Ridge Wild Animal Park
If you ask the residents at Cascade Trails, they’ll tell you that the Boulder Ridge Wild Animal Park is one of the best places in the whole city. There, guests can see 120 species of wild animals and grab a bite to eat at the restaurant, Boulder Bites.
At the Boulder Ridge Wild Animal Park, guests even have the opportunity to feed some of the animals, and that’s exactly what we did! Our residents had a great time learning all about the different animals they feed, including giraffes, camels, deer, prairie dogs, goats and even a snapping turtle.
