Honoring Our Veterans: A Tribute to Senior Living Residents Who Served
Among the many remarkable people who live in our communities are veterans who answered the call to serve and helped protect the freedoms we enjoy today. To the heroes who call StoryPoint Group communities home, thank you for your service. It’s our privilege to support you every day.
Each Veterans Day and Memorial Day, we join residents across StoryPoint Group communities in honoring those who have served our nation, and we carry that same gratitude with us every day throughout the year. For us, each day is another opportunity to express our gratitude to the veterans who are part of our community.
In this veterans’ tribute, we share how we honor and celebrate the veterans at StoryPoint Group communities. We hope you’ll read on and share your veteran’s story with us.
The Veterans Who Call Our Communities Home
StoryPoint Group communities are home to many great men and women who served in all branches and ranks of the military, representing different generations and military occupations. Because of this, each veteran’s journey is truly unique, but they all share one thing in common: a commitment to serving something greater than themselves. Their experiences, sacrifices, and stories are an important part of our communities. For this reason, we’re truly grateful for the opportunity to serve the people who served our nation.
As one way of honoring veterans in senior living, our Veterans Project Coordinator, Sean Tracy, established the Veterans Tribute Room at StoryPoint Group’s Independence Village of Brighton Valley.
To create this Veterans Tribute, Tracy personally met with and interviewed 17 veteran residents, allowing each person to share their military service story in their own words. Their stories, along with framed photographs, are displayed throughout the room as a lasting tribute to their courage, service, and sacrifice.
In a personal letter, Michigan State Representative Lana Theis recognized the Veterans Tribute Room for thanking veterans and helping preserve and share their stories within senior living communities.
How We Honor Veterans Year-Round
StoryPoint Group communities across the country have found meaningful ways to honor and celebrate veteran residents. During nationally recognized observances like Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and Independence Day, we bring residents, families, and team members together to thank and celebrate the senior veterans who live with us.
Alongside these special holidays, we also look for meaningful ways to honor and celebrate veteran residents throughout the year. These may include:
- Decorating community spaces with the American flag and items from their time in service
- Recognizing veteran residents during monthly community gatherings
- Hosting veterans’ coffee hours
- Inviting local veterans organizations or guest speakers for special programs
- Sharing veterans’ tribute through newsletters and community features
- Supporting veteran-focused charities and community service initiatives
Although specific events and programs may vary by community, honoring veterans remains an important part of who we are.

The Veterans Model Project: Honoring Service in a Personal Way
One of the most meaningful ways to honor veterans in senior living is by taking the time to listen to their stories. For years, Sean Tracy, Founder and Creator of the StoryPoint Veterans Model Project, has personally visited veteran residents in their communities, gifting them hand-built replica military models, including planes, tanks, boats, and trucks, to honor their service. Each replica is handcrafted entirely by Tracy and can take anywhere from 20 to 300 hours to complete, depending on the level of detail involved.
So far, he has gifted more than 150 custom models to veteran residents across StoryPoint Group communities, free of charge. He hopes to eventually give a personalized model to every veteran who wants one.
Share Your Veteran’s Story
We hope to honor even more veterans by featuring their stories in future veterans tributes across StoryPoint Group platforms. If you or someone you know served in the military, we invite you to share your veteran photos or stories with us.
