After a year away, the culinary team at Independence Village of Plymouth returned to the Showcase and Taste of Plymouth with confidence, flavor, and a plan — and they walked away with the title of Best Entree.
Held at St. John’s on Monday, May 4, 2026, the Showcase and Taste of Plymouth brought together restaurants and food businesses from across the Plymouth area for a celebration of local culinary talent. For Executive Chef Frank and the Independence Village of Plymouth culinary team, the event was a chance to step back into the spotlight and show the wider community what restaurant-style senior dining can truly look like.
The team came prepared with a bold, two-part lineup: a Spanish-style Beef Short Rib Slider paired with a show-stopping dessert, the Tarta corazón latino (latin heart cake).
The sliders were the star of the night. Slow-braised Spanish-style short rib, tender and full of Latin-inspired flavor, was layered on a buttery brioche bun with melted Manchego cheese and finished with smoky paprika aioli — creating a slider that was rich, bold, and unforgettable. By the end of judging, all 500 sliders had been enjoyed, and Independence Village of Plymouth earned the title of Best Entree at the 2026 Showcase and Taste of Plymouth.

Alongside the entree, the team served the Tarta corazón latino, a celebration of Hispanic flavors in every layer. A crisp chocolate tart shell filled with vibrant strawberry purée and a delicate churro sponge holds a warm cinnamon note, then flows into silky horchata gelée and airy dulce de leche mousse — all crowned with luxurious Dulcey Chocolate Chantilly for a modern, indulgent finish.
