First celebrated on September 5, 1882, over 10,000 workers marched the streets of New York City in a parade organized by the Central Labor Union, demonstrating the growing strength of the labor movement. In the years following the holiday gained popularity, being recognized in several states before being signed into law as a national holiday in 1894.Today, Labor Day is an opportunity for us to celebrate all the hard work that has built our country, and to recognize those who fought for a better workplace.
